Can we install OS in our mobile phones ourselves?

Have you thought about it? It seems reasonable to think that way. After all Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) had its operating system on their own computer and they’ve managed to get only the tiny piece of the market share in the long run. IBM PC is the dominant platform on the market today, since everyone can make it. And everyone is free to install whichever OS he or she likes.
Anyway, Antony Pranata has a great comment on this subject. I like the idea, as it raises so many questions and possibilities. Any thoughts, please?

you can install or flash your firmware in your mobile phone. If you don’t have a copy of your original firmware, just try to flash your phone using android cupcake.
