3G crippled by lack of services

By Dusan Belic on Friday, May 19th, 2006 at 2:59 AM PST In General, Services

vnunet.com brings an interview with Thomas Chambers, CFO at Symbian. The main point of this conversation (as the name says) is the consumer uptake of 3G services in the mobile phone market. As said, it is happening much more slowly than expected and the main reason according to Chambers is the lack of services. He argues that what consumer want include such services as mobile TV, distributed content or internet applications and points to the 3 components for successful usage of 3G: network, handsets and services. First two are here, with third being a problem.

At the end, Chambers noted that Sky’s rollout of HDTV is an example of what NOT to do when launching a new service. :)
