In search for a perfect all-in-one device

Yesterday I was thinking something. Wouldn’t it be great to have a perfect all-in-one device which could have all cool features such as: full QWERTY keyboard, WiFi capability, built-in GPS and high-quality camera. Apparently such device already exist. The only problem is that it’s working on Windows Mobile platform and it’s part of the Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY)-Siemens Pocket LOOX T Series handhelds.
I’m not writing this to glorify the Windows Mobile platform. I’m doing it in hope that someone from Symbian OS handset manufacturers will read this post and actually do something about it. Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s E61, E70 and 9300i have many of the mentioned features, except:
- E61 doesn’t have a camera
- E70 does have a camera but doesn’t have a flash light
- 9300i also doesn’t have a camera, plus no vibration and other “standard” features (I’ve wrote about this in my other post – “The new Communicator ideas“)
Another very interesting device is Sony Ericsson P990i. I find it to be the near perfect device. Camera could be better, but 2MP with autofocus is good enough.
Now, NONE of the mentioned devices doesn’t have a GPS. Why is that? Do I have to carry a separate GPS receiver? That’s insane.
Anyway, Fujitsu-Siements, which is BTW an outsider in this “game”, has shown all the big players how to satisfy all customer’s needs with a single device. C’mon Nokia, c’mon Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) – show us what you’re made of! ![]()

Hi there,
Well, just like the FS Loox T830 (i.e., still unavailable), you could also wait and watch out for the Anextek moboDA 3380 or the Advance Tech Mobile Advanced Global Integrated Communicator (M.A.G.I.C.) coming out of dream world R&D shops near you hopefully soon. Other than that I do agree there are very little choices out there “right now” and (as you have alluded is probably due to) insuffucient leadership coming out of the big shops. I own and do like Nokia’s attempts with their N series smartphones but they quickly become outdated and less complete/refined when having to purchase and get accessories like separate gps receiver to work with it while their competitors (Symbian OS or not) have or are trying them integrated already. This is pretty depressing IMHO especially if you have to defend your decision and/or start the shopping process all over again in the future.
BTW, thank you for your refreshing commentary on this subject.
Hopefully, the recent news about the two “former” competitors Nokia and Siemens joining together would find them collaborating to bring a more “perfect all-in-one device” albeit in a less competitive arena.
All of the above ones are bloated or poorly laid out, the best one I have seen thus far are the Qtek 9000 and Eten Glofiish M700 (Phone, PDA, GPS etc etc)
I’m really pumped about the M.A.G.I.C. It’s an absolute ninja. China Media Group is plugging it too, so you already know!
woo-woo!
