Symbian OS shipments reach 12.3m in Q2 2006

Nigel CliffordSymbian’s CEO, Nigel Clifford, highlighted Q2 financial figures and added – Symbian continues to lead the global smartphone market with 12.3m Symbian smartphones shipping worldwide.

Highlights:

  • A total of 23 Symbian smartphone models commenced shipping in Q2 2006
  • 5,323 third party Symbian applications are now commercially available, an increase of 29% on Q2 last year
  • With 15 of the 23 new Symbian phone models that commenced shipping in Q2 2006 designed for 3G W-CDMA networks, Symbian is a 3G leader

Looking forward, Nigel concluded that with the new range of the Symbian OS v9 phones soon coming to market and with the availability of Symbian’s new scalable pricing options from July 06 onwards, he expects to see an acceleration of Symbian smartphones in the lower cost device market segments, driving higher volumes of exciting phones and services.
