Symbian OS v9.2 S60 3rd Edition FP1 SDK

The new Symbian OS S60 SDK, based on S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 SDK and Symbian OS v9.2, is now available. The new SDK supports the latest Nokia N95 device and is compatible with Codewarrior 3.1 and Carbide.c++.

As usual, the SDK includes all key functionalities needed for application development, including API reference, documentation, emulator, etc.

Nokia's phone of the future – aeon

Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s research unit has presented us the aeon, which I hope represents how the phone could look like in the future. We’ve already seen some all-touchscreen concepts, but this one comes from the industry leader. It’s good to know that Nokia shares our thoughts. Just imaging “aeon” packed with all the features of N95 “multimedia computer”. Nice! :)

Mobile TV audience grows 45% in Q2 2006

Recent report from Telephia, indicates that mobile TV revenues grew 67% in Q2 to $86 million, while the mobile TV audience grew 45% to 3.7 million subscribers.

The report also includes ratings of viewership for top mobile channels:

  1. ABC News – 40%
  2. The Weather Channel – 32%
  3. Fox Sports – 31%
  4. ESPN – 29%
  5. Fox News – 22%
  6. NBC Mobile News – 20%
  7. Comedy Central – 16%

SlovoEd 2.1 for Nokia communicators released

Epocware today announced the new version of SlovoEd line dictionaries for Nokia (NYSE: NOK) 9300/9500 communicators. SlovoEd 2.1 provides customers with traditionally high-quality translation and includes new brand features that make language study and dictionary operations more practical and efficient.

Nokia Mobile Search further expands with more local search providers

After adding Yahoo! and MS Live Search as its search providers, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced that Mobile Search has added another set of new local directory providers to global markets, making it the online search tool for finding what you want in many parts of the world. The addition of new services for Canada, Denmark and Germany further strengthens Nokia’s dedication to bring extensive local directory information directly to your pocket with Mobile Search.

Quickoffice S60 3.1 released

Quickoffice - pic2Quickoffice announced the latest release of Quickoffice 3.1, bringing many product enhancements and heralds the launch of the new, innovative Quickmanager tool. As a complement to the core product line which includes Quickword, Quickpoint and Quicksheet, Quickmanager is a unique, in-application mechanism that enables users to purchase valuable product updates and new mobile applications. Quickoffice 3.1 includes both the “view-only” version of the office suite, as well as Quickmanager, and is compatible with all handsets running S60 3rd edition.

Quickoffice 3.1 offers many enhancements to its previous version including improvements in speed and memory usage, allowing users to efficiently work with even larger documents. As with previous versions, the software allows access to all Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations as well as text files – whether they are delivered as e-mail attachments, external memory cards or transferred from a PC. Coaches will be leaving for the top secret venue at 6.00pm from the west entrance of the Excel centre and tickets will be handed out then. Numbers are limited so make sure you’re on the bus early. Nokia adds Orb MyCasting service to N80 Internet Edition

The integration will arrive initially in the United States when the device begins to ship November of this year. Orb MyCasting offers a single solution for enjoying all of your digital media stored on your home computer, remotely.

Together, Nokia and Orb allow you to instantly enjoy your home photos, videos, music, and even TV, where and when you want. Orb’s intuitive solution simply streams a person’s own content from their home PC using the Web browser and player on their Nokia N80 Internet Edition, creating their own “personal media portal”. You can also remotely record TV programs using Orb’s Digital Video Recorder (DVR) function and then play back those recorded programs to their mobile device.

Accredited Symbian Developer webcast

Today (11th October 2006) at 16:00 BST Symbian will broadcast live Accredited Symbian Developer (ASD) webcast, which will explain the uses, infrastructure and context of the Accredited Symbian Developer (ASD) scheme.

Symbian Accredited DeveloperASD is an examination that allows you to quantify the strengths and weaknesses of an individual or group’s understanding of the fundamental concepts of Symbian C++. This data empowers a development team to address weaknesses and utilise strengths in order to reduce development time and enhance the quality of the software produced. ASD is also a powerful recruitment tool, allowing potential candidates to be efficiently and consistently assessed, and for technical managers to recruit with confidence.
