Nokia about to dump pop-ports!?

Latest moves from Nokia (NYSE: NOK) suggest that they are dumping the pop-port and are moving towards a complete adoption of the mini USB connection. Some of the latest Nokia’s phones sport the mini USB port – Nokia N95 “multimedia computer”, two of the U.S. market targeted smartphones E62 and N75, as well as Nokia 5200 and 5300.
Since the beginning of the mobile phones, we’ve all wanted to have a uniform way to communicate from PCs to devices. If you change from one manufacturer to the other, you could have thrown away your current cables and replace them with the new, manufacturer-specific ones. I guess these cables are also the profit center for the mobile phone makers. But now, it seems that a slight shift is happening – and it’s good to watch.
At the same time, along with the adoption of the mini USB connection, Nokia also embraces the standard 3.5 mm audio jack. The N91 was the first Nokia’s smartphone to sport the standard 3.5 mm audio jack, and today it is followed by the N95, E62…
Approaching the standards, listening to the customer’s needs… that’s what we have expected not only from Nokia, but from all the other smartphone manufacturers. Now, the only left for them is to integrate S-video out…
