Awesome Nokia N93 commercial

You really need to have lived in NY for a few years to appreciate the truth in this commercial. I don’t know how old this commercial is, or what country of origin it hails from, but it’s executed almost perfectly. There is no mention of the model number of the mobile phone used (orally, not text); not only that but the device is called "N93." Not really a compelling name is it?
Motorola (NYSE: MOT) has the RAZR, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) has the iPod, Sony-Ericsson has the Walkman Phone, what is Nokia (NYSE: NOK) trying to accomplish with the N93?

Well, I don’t like the alphanumeric product names either, but naming business is not so easy:

That was an excellent read, thank you.
I’ll have to throw my 2 cents in at a later date since I’m in a rush but I’m glad to read something from the perspective of the marketer as opposed to a consumer.
Very Socratic style debate.
Ooh, I love the video! We only get a shortened version of the ad on TV.
I very much prefer the simple, alphanumeric product names (I hope I’m not the only one). Razr and things sound so pathetic…
While I do like short product names like N93, it’s the long ones like 6620, 7373, etc.
The 4 digit ones are what get me.
But ultimately the people prefer simple names. RAZR is very unique, you can’t forget it after someone tells you that.
Sure, it’s unique. But you can’t shave with the phone.
(well, who knows)
Oh well, I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen. I like what Kevin Sharp writes at a Forum Nokia blog http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/view_entry.html?id=206 about an additional name, a sort of epithet in conjunction with the number code.
See I like what Kevin says, but I’m still not a believer in the 4 digit system.
American’s can remember 3 digit numbers fairly well, 2 digit numbers extremely well.
Then again the Nokia 61 Buisness is just a long and unsexy product name.
Samsung has the blackjack, Motorola has the Q. Nokia has the E61 …
However blackberry seems to have major success despite their horrible naming conventions, so the theory that name dictates sales is broken by them.
