Update your Nokia N73 to music edition
By Dusan Belic on Saturday, November 25th, 2006 at 9:11 am PST In Devices, NSeries, Nokia, Symbian
It seems that now it is possible to update your Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N73 to the music edition. The procedure is quite simple - change your N73’s product code to 0539343 and then use Nokia Software Updater to update your N73 to the Music Edition firmware.
The updated phone has the well-known Moby tune “In My Heart”, uses joystick controls to play music, and the media key on the phone becomes a one touch access to the music player.
But, be aware as this procedure will invalidate any warranty on your handset.

How does the product code-changing work?
December 5th, 2006 at 11:02 am
Hey!
Before you try any crazy product code changing… let me just share with you my expereince with the software update applic. I wanted to update my brand new n73 with the brand new applic, and proceeded to totally kill my phone. Wouldnt turn on anymore, and has now been away for three weeks (and counting) apparently it is irrevocably damaged, and they had to order a new one!
And no, i didn’t unplug the chord etc.!
Just a short heads up!
December 7th, 2006 at 2:28 am
The product code works fine for me! The first thing before you flash your phone is… change the profile to “General”. I guess many ppl missed that part.
December 15th, 2006 at 3:45 am
i changed my product number and all works fine updated it works perfect for me
December 17th, 2006 at 1:04 pm

Thanks, dusanb. The instruction from allaboutsymbian forum rules. Though, as I discovered:
1. change your profile back to GENERAL before you start.
2. connect your phone to your PC and your PC to the Internet.
3. Run the code changing program
4. Run the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Update
5. Voila!

Thanks in advance
January 19th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
wilmar, you have the latest original firmware(V 3.0649.0.0.1), right? click *#0000# and check. in this version, you can’t update, because music edition firmware is older(3.0.638.0.0.30 or something). we must wait for new ME firmware or somehow “DOWNGRADE” to older ME firmware. Mare92

hey guys…guess wad i’m listening to now?M_O_B_Y!Yahoo!..did it ast nite…went a smoothly..got back my phone from nokia center..barely hours and started the nss again..lol..stubborn as hell i am…try and try again..all went smoothly..a tip for all future phreakers..(1)back up ya phone..(2)pls charge the batt to full..(3)don’t touch the cable..(4)close other application u running, this might disrupt the process if ya pc hangs..(5)and if it so happens your phone died or went blank in the process of updating, don’t panic.remain calm.it will restart once the update is complete…(6)for the nss, select virtual usb, during set up!then select federal one driver…(7)you have to re-install the driver cos t will be wipe out when you install the nss..(8)when you succeed the scanning of new device on the nss you are one step closer to succeeding, after you write your product code,it is very fast indeed abt 2seconds..focus at the bottom of the nss program,it will be busy writing then finally done.close the program and start ya update via nokia..have fun trying..if ya phone won’t on like me during the first attempt, don’t despair, run down to nokia just say when you are updating ya software online you phone died and won’t on(provided its still under warranty)no questions ask
get back ya phone and try again..For those in Singapore who needs help doing the upgrade..pls email me> kranky_inc@yahoo.com i’ll be glad to assist ya..have fun trying..greetings from singapore..

You need 2 programs: FExplorer and Font Remover (Google!). You also need the font you want to install Should be a .gdr file
1. First copy the font to the root of your memory card.
2. Install FEexplorer and Font Remover.
3. Run Font Remover and get it to find any fonts, when it asks you to reboot, don””t! Exit the program.
4. Run FExplorer, go to the C drive of your phone and go into c:\system. In there create a folder called “Fonts”. Then copy the new .gdr file into the folder.
5. Once copied, select Options, Phone, then Restart. All being well the phone will restart with the new font running
Thanks to logik for the tip

markuzpogi,
You cant do anything apart from wait.
You have the latest version of N73 installed on your phone.
The N73 ME latest firmware is V3.0705.1.0.31
There is no way that you can downgrade a firmware.
Just gotta wait…Hopefully not too long for the new N73 ME firmware.
Regards.
June 18th, 2007 at 2:30 am
belalmiah,
what if I re-flash my phone to flasher gadget to get the older fimrware of N73, then after re-flashing
do the process of Update Nokia N73 to music edition…
anyway thanks for answering my question.
ok I’ll just wait for the new Firmware.
June 18th, 2007 at 3:47 am
markuzpogi,
As far as I know if you try and flash your phone to an older firmware (while having the latest firmware installed). It will kill your phone….
Then you got the hassle of taking the phone to the repair center, they wont be able to fix it so it have to be sent to nokia. Which will take weeks for you to receive it back.
On the other hand, if you dont have warranty (which I’m sure you have) then your in trouble. Big time.
My advice would be to wait….
Should not be long now for the new firmware.
Regards.

Hello, First thing to do is to find a product code of N73 Music Ed. listed above and go to nokia software update, and check the product code if there is available firmware update and if there new, download it right to your PC.. after that the Product code you use must be use on the nemesis product code changer then connect now your phone cable to PC and start the updating, you must be fully charge, fast internet connection, and wait, wait, wait, until all be done after that open your phone.. thats all, you have now your phone look like Music Edition features…

thanks for the tips

Why would you do that? For now, the original N73 firmware is way better than the ME. Nokia has released several firmware updates for original N73 (not the ME). And where’s the update for ME version? nothing since jan 07.
The latest firmware is 4.0726.2.0.1 (26-06-07). This new firmware has the same music player as N73ME, plus EXIT button (it’s annoying that i have to install 3rd party apps just to exit Music Player on my N73 ME). And this new firmware already support A2DP! it makes N73 ME look like sh*t.

@tamati
When you press *#0000# you get the current firmware information that is installed on on your phone. This is NOT the product code. The product code can be found when you remove the battery and has 7 digits (i.e code:1234567)
Hope that helps.

Hi anybody..
I already upgrade my standard N73 become music edition successfully and I love my phone more now. The problem the music player doesn’t have ‘exit’ of it so the music always ‘on’ on the background. Please someone, tell me how to exit?
Thank’s for any unswer
July 22nd, 2007 at 3:29 am
@noor,
You have to stop the music player before you exit, with the middle navigation button, (push down). Otherwise the player remains playing in the background.
July 22nd, 2007 at 11:07 am
Ok. I always stop the music with push down the middle navigation button. But how to ‘exit’ or to chlose the music player? Not the music only, but the application because there’s no option for exit at all. Please any idea? Or all the N73 Music Edition is like that?
I read from some other sources, said to play any song than go to the equalizer than choose the ‘exit’ option, that will chlose the music player. But now there’s no ‘exit’ option on the equalizer anymore.
So the music player always open in the background even when I’m not playing any song or chlose it from the music player button. Is there any other way to chlose or kill the music player when I don’t need it because it drying the battery faster and also using RAM memory..
Please any advise..
Thank you so much belalmiah for helping me..

@noor,
Ok…to exit the music player you have to do the following…
1) press stop (down button navigation key)
2) press back (top right button)
3) press back again (top right button)
4) press phone
This will bring you back to the standby menu.
However I do it this way…
1) press stop (down button navigation key)
2) press the end key (red button)
This will also bring you back to the standby menu quicker.
To answer your concern there is no exit button?…
I think Nokia should look into this before the next music edition firmware update.

by the way thanks for your help guys .
July 22nd, 2007 at 5:01 pm
@javed,
You have NOT upgraded to the music edition firmware…
The firmware you have (V4.0726.2.0.1)
is the latest firmware for the normal N73 & not the N73 music edition…
The latest music edition firmware is
V3.0705.1.0.31
26-01-2007
(new music edition firmware will be available very soon)
That is why the music edition themes are not on your phone. Nokia have updated the new firmware (normal N73) with the same music player as the music edition.
You will have to wait until the new music edition firmware is released…
Regards.

can anybody tell me what banifit i get with n73ME that i can not get in n73 plz
July 23rd, 2007 at 2:31 pm
@javed
Comparing the last firmware released (v4.0726.2.0.1) with a older one (v3.0704.1.0.1), these are proven to be the main Pros & Cons:
Pros:
- The Music Player from N73 ME
- New RealPlayer version
- New Quickoffice version
- “Search” app with plugins
- “Web”, “Download!” & “Services” are grouped in a new folder called “Internet”
- Better memory management
- Stereo Bluetooth A2DP profile
- FOTA support under “Device Mgr.”
- Switching between White balance modes (Sunny, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent) are visible in the preview window
Cons:
- Music Player starts by default with the phone OS
- A blinking cursor that appears in the right on the active call baloon
- No more “Snakes”; even worse, after installing this game manually from N95 support page the device needs about 85 seconds to boot-up
- No more 3D Effects and other sounds
- No more support for bluetooth GPS receivers under third party apps like Tom-Tom and Route66; the older v3.0704.1.0.1 used to have this kind of support
- Camera focus & shutter sounds are very louder and a second late than the real focus/shutter moments
- In Close-up mode, the distance between the camera and the subject now is way bigger (at least 8 - 10 cm)
Nokia, hope you preserve the Pros and fix the Bugs in your next FW release.
