Update your Nokia N73 to music edition

By Dusan Belic on Saturday, November 25th, 2006 at 9:11 AM PST In Devices, NSeries, Nokia, Symbian

Nokia N73 Music EditionIt seems that now it is possible to update your Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N73 to the music edition. The procedure is quite simple – change your N73’s product code to 0539343 and then use Nokia Software Updater to update your N73 to the Music Edition firmware.

The updated phone has the well-known Moby tune “In My Heart”, uses joystick controls to play music, and the media key on the phone becomes a one touch access to the music player.

But, be aware as this procedure will invalidate any warranty on your handset.

    i updated my n73 to me edition , but only the music player was updated ,the themes are the same , the waveforms theme wasnt installed neither the song.

    i kept on changing the product key several times,using all the listed, but it kept on saying i have the latest update .

    so is there anyway to update my n73 to n73 me ??

  4. belalmiah says:

  5. noor says:

    Hi anybody..

    I already upgrade my standard N73 become music edition successfully and I love my phone more now. The problem the music player doesn’t have ‘exit’ of it so the music always ‘on’ on the background. Please someone, tell me how to exit?

    Thank’s for any unswer

  6. belalmiah says:

    @noor,

    You have to stop the music player before you exit, with the middle navigation button, (push down). Otherwise the player remains playing in the background.

    :smile:

  7. noor says:

    Ok. I always stop the music with push down the middle navigation button. But how to ‘exit’ or to chlose the music player? Not the music only, but the application because there’s no option for exit at all. Please any idea? Or all the N73 Music Edition is like that?
    I read from some other sources, said to play any song than go to the equalizer than choose the ‘exit’ option, that will chlose the music player. But now there’s no ‘exit’ option on the equalizer anymore.
    So the music player always open in the background even when I’m not playing any song or chlose it from the music player button. Is there any other way to chlose or kill the music player when I don’t need it because it drying the battery faster and also using RAM memory..
    Please any advise..
    Thank you so much belalmiah for helping me..

  9. belalmiah says:

    @noor,

    Ok…to exit the music player you have to do the following…

    1) press stop (down button navigation key)
    2) press back (top right button)
    3) press back again (top right button)
    4) press phone

    This will bring you back to the standby menu.
    However I do it this way…

    1) press stop (down button navigation key)
    2) press the end key (red button)
    This will also bring you back to the standby menu quicker. :wink:

    To answer your concern there is no exit button?…
    I think Nokia should look into this before the next music edition firmware update.

    today i updated my friends n73 to me , it worked I HAVE THE MOBY SONG AND THE WAVEFORM THEME , coz i used an n73 me code 0539343 ,and it shows the following “v3.0705.1.0.31 rm-133 26 -01-2007 nokian73(11).

    concerning my n73 , Is there a way to rollback or downgrade MY N73 v4 to a previous version?

    by the way thanks for your help guys .

  11. belalmiah says:

    @javed,

    You have NOT upgraded to the music edition firmware…

    The firmware you have (V4.0726.2.0.1)
    is the latest firmware for the normal N73 & not the N73 music edition…

    The latest music edition firmware is
    V3.0705.1.0.31
    26-01-2007
    (new music edition firmware will be available very soon) :wink:

    That is why the music edition themes are not on your phone. Nokia have updated the new firmware (normal N73) with the same music player as the music edition.

    You will have to wait until the new music edition firmware is released…
    Regards. :smile:

  12. javed says:

    can anybody tell me what banifit i get with n73ME that i can not get in n73 plz

  13. belalmiah says:

    @javed

    Comparing the last firmware released (v4.0726.2.0.1) with a older one (v3.0704.1.0.1), these are proven to be the main Pros & Cons:

    Pros:
    - The Music Player from N73 ME
    - New RealPlayer version
    - New Quickoffice version
    - “Search” app with plugins
    - “Web”, “Download!” & “Services” are grouped in a new folder called “Internet”
    - Better memory management
    - Stereo Bluetooth A2DP profile
    - FOTA support under “Device Mgr.”
    - Switching between White balance modes (Sunny, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent) are visible in the preview window

    Cons:
    - Music Player starts by default with the phone OS
    - A blinking cursor that appears in the right on the active call baloon
    - No more “Snakes”; even worse, after installing this game manually from N95 support page the device needs about 85 seconds to boot-up
    - No more 3D Effects and other sounds
    - No more support for bluetooth GPS receivers under third party apps like Tom-Tom and Route66; the older v3.0704.1.0.1 used to have this kind of support
    - Camera focus & shutter sounds are very louder and a second late than the real focus/shutter moments
    - In Close-up mode, the distance between the camera and the subject now is way bigger (at least 8 – 10 cm)

    Nokia, hope you preserve the Pros and fix the Bugs in your next FW release.

    For those waiting here it is…

    New N73 music edition update available now from NSU.

    V4.0727.2.2.1

    Regards. :razz:

  15. noor says:

    Belalmiah, if I have to choice between this firmware, which one U suggest me to use :

    1.) Back to my original code, and get the latest firmware (4.0726.2.0.1) that also have music player as ME , so I’ll not loose my phone guarantee (I still have 9 month guarantee).

    2.) Still using the firmware that I’m using now, 3.0705.1.0.31, that I know better than the old N73, with the risk that I’m loosing my guarantee coz I changed the code

    3.) Upgrade to the newest ME firmware, which is I don’t know this is better or worse in my phone (coz sometimes its not the same in all n73 phone), and its no way to downgrade.

    Please any suggest belalmiah.. I just want the best firmware and also ‘exit’ option for my music player. Thank’s a lot

  16. belalmiah says:

    @noor,

    Its really a case of personal taste!
    I have the N73me so I prefer the music edition firmware on my phone.(V4.0727.2.2.1)
    I like to keep up with the latest firmware, (its just me.) :wink:

    The main reason people use to flash their normal N73 into the N73me firmware was purly because of the music player. Now that the normal N73 has the same music player there is not much difference.

    Whatever you decide remember that the latest firmware is always better! Althogh I’m aware that some handsets work better with the new firmware & some dont.

    Also a little advice on changing product codes…
    I always change my phones product code back to the original code that its meant to be on the handset after flashing.

    So if you are worried about loosing your warranty just change back to the original product code after flashing.

    If something is wrong with your phone take it to Nokia & DONT tell them you flashed it etc. Worked for me. :wink:
    Hope that helps. Regards. :smile:

  17. belalmiah says:

    @noor

    This is already answered above but here it is again…

    To exit the music player you have to do the following…

    1) press stop (down button navigation key)
    2) press back (top right button)
    3) press back again (top right button)
    4) press phone (top right button)

    This will bring you back to the standby menu.
    However I do it this way…

    1) press stop (down button navigation key)
    2) press the end key (red button)
    This will also bring you back to the standby menu quicker.

    To answer your concern there is no exit button?…
    I think Nokia should look into this before the next music edition firmware update.

    Regards. :cool:

  18. noor says:

    Oh, great! That’s right!

    Now I have the original code in my phone with the better firmware. I flash the code back. You’re right belalmiah, now I’m not afraid to loosing my warranty.
    Thank you so much for the great logic unswer. Love to share with you. :grin:

    About the music player, there’s no way to chlose the application, is always on the background with press hard the menu button even I already on standby menu. I read from some other sources they said that the nokia remove the ‘exit’ option from the equalizer coz it suppose to always run, not suppose to chlose it to prefent the… something, I forgot what.
    Is that on the newest ME firmware, V4.0727.2.2.1, still don’t have ‘exit’ option for the media player or how belalmiah? :?:
    Thank you so much

  19. noor says:

    Oh ya 1 more thing belalmiah.

    Is the newest firmware for ME has the 4way multimedia key? or is it goes directly to music player still?
    And how about the newest firmware for the standar one?

    Thank’s :grin:

  20. belalmiah says:

    @noor,

    I can confirm that the new music edition firmware (V4.0727.2.2.1) has the exit options and it still has the music button & not 4 way multimedia options. (thats one of the main reason for this music edition a dedicated music button.) :wink:

    What firmware are you using?

    Because I believe the new firmware (4.0726.2.0.1 Normal N73) has the exit option from music player.

    Regards. :cool:

  21. noor says:

    I upgrade my normal n73 become ME, so my firmware now is 3.0705.1.0.31

    Now I’m confuse to choose between 4.0726.2.01 or 4.0727.2.2.1. Are those the same firmware? Only different one for the standard and the other one for ME. If any other different, what is that?

    Thank’s belalmiah, you help me alot and give me more knowledge about my handset.

  22. belalmiah says:

    @noor,

    Both firmware’s are very much similer?

    The main difference is that the music edition has the extra themes like ’stave & waveform’ along with the music button.

    Whichever firmware you decide…? I can confirm that they both have the ‘exit’ option from the music player. :razz:

  23. noor says:

    Ok. I upgraded my phone with the latest firmware. I choose the 4.0726.2.01. I got the same media player like ME but now with the exit option, also real player & internet folder, and the nicest of all is I got my multimedia key back :grin:

    Thank’s belalmiah..

  24. belalmiah says:

    @noor,

    Glad to help.

  25. Mobiledepot says:

    You’re right Dusan you can really update your phone’s software through Nokia Software Updater by changing its product code but you’ve to know some precautionary measures so as not to make your mobile phone dead and useless in the long run.
