Canola videos straight from the developers; What the Nokia 770 should have been

By Stefan Constantinescu on Thursday, November 30th, 2006 at 8:02 PM PST In Devices, Videos

I love videos like this. In the first video you have a simple demonstration of the theme system and what happens when you swap media. The second video really is a show off of the audio playback features of Canola. The last, and most important video, is a developer just walking around and introducing the team.

Putting a face on the people who make applications that change the way you live your daily life is a wonderful experience. If I were to ever get a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Tablet, I would instantly know in my mind the guy who made Canola. The guy behind support, the guy behind the forums, real people make software not companies.

Sure we may love Nokia products, but it’s a very vague statement when we say we love Nokia. Wouldn’t you want to see who designed the 8800? The E61? The brand spanking new hotness 6300? Videos like this make me feel warm and fuzzy on the insides because I’m consuming content about things I know I’ll love and it helps me connect with the people behind my favorite products.

So Nokia, when will you start connecting your employees with consumers? The Nokia World Blog was a step in the right direction, but it can only go so far. Video is the way to, literally, put a face on the minds behind your company logo. Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) created Channel 9 and the MSDN blog network, that’s the gold standard in connecting people.

  1. Yeah, I think we’ll see a lot more faces from the Internet Tablet development community once the new tablet with the built-in camera comes around as well. It’s definitely a good feeling to be able to see the great people behind awesome projects like Canola.

By the way, your site rocks.

  2. Thanks for the feedback mate.
