These videos make me very happy indeed. Buttons are so old school, letting people manipulate their data via touching it really will be a revolutionary interface. Now those videos were more bling then reality but the basics are still there. The people in the club touching their phones to exchange data, the guy viewing images by selecting them, these are all examples of the direction we should be heading in. I’m already beginning to develop thicker skin on my thumbs thanks to the joy stick on my E61.
I want to make a clear distinction that I don’t think touching with a stylus is the future, touching the screen is. When I was going pda shopping, the closest competitor to the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) E61 was the Treo 680. If the Treo had a larger keyboard and wifi, while still being $400 then I wouldn’t have gotten my E61. That says something.

Hi, I’m fighting for it. I also do think that touching should be one of the main goals in future interfaces, and like you without the stylus.
I tried to do that with our project (Canola) and people almost killed me when I said to them “I want to make users able to use this without the stylus.. with thumbs”. They said that the will never touch it, and even when I said : it’s not far from today the day that we will not let fingerprints on the touchscreens. Ok, I can be dreaming a little too high, but this Nokia videos shows that. You will only be able to use it when some nano-technology-or-something allows you to do that without making the screen dirty.
Well, No I’m waiting for 2 things to make this happen in a killer way:
1) high precision / dpi touchscreens (it’s coming, like those concepts from sinapts : onyx fone)
2) tactile feedback: to be able to give user real feeback when interacting.
Let’s hope this things become reality soon, and more : let’s hope nokia doesn’t forget about this nice concepts =)

I think it will happen within 10 years, no doubt about that.
Hi I have used a Palm device for the past 5-6 years, my last phone was a Treo 650.
I can say the touch screen technology has improved greatly in those 6 years on the Palm.
With the Palms you can use either a stylus or finger to touch the screen. The stylus is for, I guess, accessibility for the device.
Why Nokia didn’t use touch in the past? well I guess they were still a phone maker.
Now with the new smart phones, I could see the touch screen features being brought in alot quicker.
thanks
Nokia has the 6708 which has touch.
nokia has lot off touch screen models,
