Q&A with Craig Coffey, VP, Marketing, Nokia

By Stefan Constantinescu on Thursday, November 30th, 2006 at 10:37 PM PST In Financial/Corporate News

First question, is the best question:

q: your business is both to market your brand and market others’ brands – talk a little about that

a: not just communication vehicles, but useful for messaging

word of mouth is a form of new media; magic happens when people talk about your brand to others.

we
identified super influencer bloggers and held an open house prior to
launch at nokia (NYSE: NOK) flagship store in Manhattan. gave them total access to
press content well in advance of launch.

you have to have confidence in your brand. if there’s a flaw they will find it. you can’t control what people write.

So that’s how Darla Mack got to go! Well maybe Nokia should launch a flagship in Texas ::wink wink::

There was also an audience Q&A session

q: came from blog business summit and adtech they’re very
different events; at blog business summit everyone hates marketing; at
adtech everyone wants to get to the bloggers. how do you deal with
those two opposites?

craig coffey, Nokia:
bloggers
are extremely important – marketers have tried to over manipulate the
blogging community. don’t patronize. put the product out there and let
it stand on its own two legs. we felt like we had a great product.
respect the power they have and be transparent. let them see
everything. showed tech specs we normally only share with the press.
