Orb MyCast lets you Search and Stream YouTube videos from your mobile device

By Stefan Constantinescu on Sunday, December 3rd, 2006 at 6:55 PM PST In Ideas and rants

Do you remember my previous posting about Orb Networks’ OrbThis plugin for MyCast? Basically OrbThis lets you "import" Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Video, YouTube and Daily Motion videos into your Orb MyCast account that you can stream your favorite online videos right from your mobile phone or PDA as well. However, I’ve mentioned that, as nice as this feature is, it has one flaw: you have to add the videos from your desktop PC before you can watch it on your mobile device but you are not able to search from your mobile phone. Well, that’s the past now because Orb recently enabled the online video search right from the mobile MyCast site of your mobile phone or PDA as well!

See this wouldn’t work for my since my only computer is my laptop, and my laptop always comes with me whereever I go. If I want to view youtube videos I can always connect to the internet via my Nokia (NYSE: NOK) E61 and then go to youtube.com on my ThinkPad … not quite the same as having the power of YouTube in my hand now is it? :-(

    Hey, did you try http://tinytube.net?

Tinytube no longer works, it is currently offline.

After spotting this over the weekend, I tried it out. I’ve put the Orbthis plugin on my PC and I managed to get the service to work. Login, see the online video link, browse, search and select videos from Youtube, Yahoo, Google and Daily Motion.

Today the streaming doesn’t seem to be working. Neither on my N73 nor N80 nor W950i.

It’s a shame you can’t use the service, but for things like Orb you do need a PC always on, always connected to the net.

  3. Hmm sad to hear, let me know if you ever get it fixed!

    Very sad!

  6. Very sad indeed, thanks for the link Dimilaz, I saw it earlier but I was questioning posting it since it wasn’t directly related to Nokia. Then I thought to myself … I use youtube everyday, so I might as well talk about it since i know i care about it so much.

Well, tinytube is back, but Orb streaming still won’t work. I can’t understand what changed, it worked fine once I’d set all the ports as required. I doubt it’s solely a network issue as I cannot get streaming on my N73 on T-Mobile nor W950i on Orange

  8. I’ll have to try it over the weekend, I’m digging tinytube butt song realize it’s limitations when i find out i can’t plug my headphones in to my E61.
