Ken figures out how to post videos to his blog directly from a Nokia N73

By Stefan Constantinescu on Tuesday, December 5th, 2006 at 3:06 AM PST In Uses for you Nokia phone

I’ve posted video directly from the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N73 to both a VOX blog and here. No personal computer used at all in either case.

To post video to Typepad or VOX blogs, I’d recommend using the native LifeBlog software from Nokia. While you can use LifeBlog on the PC as well, you don’t need it. I sent a video and numerous pictures with LifeBlog. To be honest, it’s seamless and elegant. The only think I haven’t figured out is how to do a text-only post from the N73. I’m sure I’ll find a way, but that will also be coupled to using it with a bluetooth keyboard.

Posting video to blip.tv was a different challenge, but easily overcome. I think it can all be done via the browser interface, but I didn’t use it. The N73 has a reasonably workable POP/IMAP email client built into the messaging suite. This isn’t Outlook. But it uses the address book in the phone. It allows attachments. In short, easy enough POP3 email in addition to the Gmail app that I’ve installed. It was quite easy to set up.

Wait what? I’m confused, are you saying the Gmail app allows you to send attachments? Which magical version do you have!?

I knew the Nokia N Series could post pictures directly to Flickr, but check this out it does video too! I only wish the thing supported direct uploading to YouTube. Now that Google (NSDQ: GOOG) bought them out let’s how they make some API’s for Nokia to exploit!

If you’re curious about the quality his N73 put out, check out this blog post

Sorry for any confusion I created. No, the Gmail app won’t let you send attachments. I hate that.

But there’s a mail client that does. Actually, that mail client could be configured to Gmial via POP3, but I set it up for a different email address. It was just a very cool discovery yesterday even if the video I did was poor quality from the secondary camera. That was just a proof of the concept for me. I wanted to figure ou thow to video blog straight from the phone without needing a PC. I’ll be exploring a bit more of that.

If I want, but mostly I don’t (cause I want do more than just use muvee ;)) I use ShoZu to post videos directly to my WordPress blog. It works fine, takes a while obviously, but it works.

  3. Mindcaster: Well I’m thankful for the WiFi on campus which gives me 1 Mb/s upload!

Ken: I agree with you, Google really needs to fix that. Don’t be afraid to post more video! It’s basically known the N93 can produce stunning shots, but people buy the phone for the camcorder functionality, not the stills.

i don’t like to post video to my server, youtube link is great.
