Skype for S60 … wtf is taking so long?

If you’re in the UK you can subscribe to "3" which will provide you with a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N series device that runs Skype. Someone managed to extract that application off their N73 and run it on an E61 over at the e-series blog. My question is what is taking Sykpe so long to release this as a stand alone application? I bet you they’re waiting until 2007 when Skype in/out won’t be free anymore. I can only imagine signing up for Verizon (NYSE: VZ)’s EVDO service and enjoying unlimited minutes here in the US.
In fact … why doesn’t someone start a 3G MVNO that offers unlimited minutes per month? If anyone is in the position to do this it’s eBay, who owns Skype. I’m sure they can manage something with their vast pools of money. Damn this makes me want to call the CEO of eBay now!
How difficult would it be to start your own MVNO?

It’s not really Skype, but iSkoot… which works like a proxy for the service. You can do VOIP today with either Truphone or Gizmo – http://www.atmasphere.net/wp/archives/2006/09/22/nokia-e61-voip-via-gizmo
