Its past July 1,2009. Where is VLC? I don't believe a word of it. From what I'm to understand the only thing this thing needs now is a GUI. Which is the easiest part. All they need to do is make the program & we ourselves can get the certificates for it.

I believe this was a hoax designed by Nokia to ward off any attempts to develop a Media Player for Symbian OS. Trust me. Nokia already made one but are trying to pedal there stupid Ovi store like apple did with the I phone.. Don’t you get it Nokia that’s the reason I did not buy an iPhone you idiots! Samsung Omnia HD, the iphone, Palm, WM and Android are looking much better than anything Nokia has because they won’t release a freaking Avi player.

Would love to help guys, but symbian seems to be a major issue.
We have a site www.vtv.net.au which when completed in the next few weeks will have over 3,000
free tv channels which can be viewed by multiple browsers and os.
If you want to check it out now, use standard internet explore and see whats comming.. enjoy..

If you hae any suggestions, email me at theo@vtt.net.au

Will try and pull a few strings with Nokia.

Cheers and good luck!!

Vote on S60.com for VLC media player on (Nokia) Symbian S60

Everyone, vote for this wish, by giving a star, on S60.com to fully port the VLC Media Player to the (Nokia) Symbian S60 platform for mobile devices, if you want universal A/V playback on your mobile devices. VLC is open source and it leaves (almost) no audio or video codec behind.

Hopefully Nokia will port VLC if they see enough votes, like they've already successfully ported Apache (Mobile Web Server), PuTTy, Python, P.I.P.S. (Is POSIX on Symbian) and Qt (Programing Toolkit) for Symbian S60.

I coulnt agree more when you say Real Player sucks. It sucks 4 PC and it sucks 4 mobile. Messes up your entire PC and it is more or less impossible to get rid of it't traces. One of those app-makers who think they have the right to do anything with your computer. Real Player is seriously a malware.

Enough whining :p I would realy appreciate VLC Player for Symbian S60. I'd personaly mail the pope, explain the situation and make him declare he/she a saint.

Did you try CorePlayer for Symbian? It's a decent player but it's not free. It's far better than RealPlayer.

This would absolutely be a killer app for the N9x series - finally a good app to use bandwidth with! Imagine streaming your own video's from your home server to your Nokia!
Real player is worthless, only flash-video currently delivers some reasonable video to Nokia.
