S60 Annoyance: Where is the date?

By Stefan Constantinescu on Friday, December 29th, 2006 at 8:10 PM PST In Ideas and rants

Welcome to the 1st installment of a new series I’ve coined "Symbian Annoyances"

Call me weird, but out of all the different date formats on this planet, I love how the Japanese do it:

Year/Month/Day   I modify it a little by using the period as a separator instead of a slash

To my surprise, whenever I use a ring tone profile other than "General" my date goes away!

"General" Profile:

Annoyance0001

"Silent" Profile:

Annoyance0002

You have no idea how annoying this is since I always look at my phone to check the date. The majority of the time I’m out and about I’m in silent mode since I’m a student. I am forced to go to the calendar when all I really wanted to see is what the date is. Anger! Hulk Smash!

  1. Jeb says:

I hate the fact that there is no spell check for my email and other text.

  2. Henrikki says:

Use the analog clock. The date is visible there…and you don’t have to chage profiles..if you have active standby screen you can click the calender and there you are. Analog clock does it without any clicks.

I use the T9 to spell check..it works in all the applications (most of them anyway). I think T9 is not usable in qwerty phones. I hope Nokia fixes this, it’s a good point to make.

  3. Spell check I can live without

Henrikki: I loathe the analog clock, digital for me.
