Video: Orb being shown off on a Nokia 770

Garbage, sheer garbage. If I were head of the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Open Source Department I’d put a team of 15-20 people together to begin porting VLC already for the 770 and why not … even Symbian! Real Player is trash, Flash is trash, let a video play in it’s native state with no transcoding involved. Am I the only one here who has stopped downloading videos? I mean seriously you just plug the URL of a file into VLC and within seconds it starts streaming! Tonight I just watched an entire movie, streaming, in VLC, off my friends FTP server in NY. VLC is bloody powerful and it’s completly 100% open source. Why is Nokia sticking to proprietary inferior software such as Real Player and Opera on their Linux platform when there are better solutions (VLC and Firefox or WebKit) out there!
Enough ranting however, I found the video on a blog called ThoughtFix and thought it would be interesting enough to share:

I’ll be working on cross compiling vlc soon. Got a lot on my plate at the moment, but I think we can get a rough version for the 770 with a little sweat and blood. I never new documentation for Maemo development was so lacking…
Funny comment…Flash is trash…is this video on your blog in Flash (uh…yes).
