Another semi non Nokia (NYSE: NOK) related story but I think I can make you understand why I’m sharing this with you.
First off watch this video from Nokia World 2006:

Now look at what Synaptics showed off at CES (the frame rate is poor but it is satisfactory enough to get its message across):

See any relation? I know I did! Touch really is the future and I’ve been beating that drum since starting this blog. Sure Symbian owns greater than 50% of the smart phone market but it’s closest competitor, Windows Mobile, is quickly catching up. What differentiates them? Touch (as well as an easier platform for developers to build applications on … but that’s another blog post entirely)
I know a Nokia employee isn’t going to answer this, but when do you guys think we’ll see mobiles implement this sort of tech? I’m not talking about niche $700 N95 class devices, I mean when will this saturate the market?

hahaha…i remember watching about the onyx a while back! pritty interesting but i have to dissagree with you about touch screen is the future. the only reason why i say this is because you cant use a touch screen with one hand, and on phones that are touch screen only it would be hard to walk around while txting someone.
oh i remember reading somewere that that the onyx uses two nokia screens put together for the prototype.
Romeo I disagree with you: have you ever used a Treo? The QWERTY keyboard in combination with the touch screen makes for a highly pleasurable experience.
I’m not saying that Nokia should make a device that is PURE touch. That is probably what you think I said. What I’m trying to engage those Finn’s to do is to open up to more than one input method.
Ever used a tablet pc? Especially these new ones on the market with multi touch? You can use your finger, you can use a stylus, you can use a keyboard.
Think how much more natural touch is for certain applications like GPS, think about how much more natural a jog dial is for things like MP3 playback.
One can easily use a Treo with one hand and everyone I know who owns one uses the touch screen in combination with the keypad to achieve maximum efficiency.
yah i was talking about a pure touch screen! but i do like the touchscreen with the keypad.
