Nokia makes phones that work all over the world; too bad they don’t have an international warrenty

By Stefan Constantinescu on Friday, January 19th, 2007 at 4:50 AM PST In Ideas and rants

I have this problem with my E61 “not charging”.  When I plug the phone into the charger, it’ll charge for a little while–30 seconds to 10 minutes–and then beep and say “Not charging.” If I unplug and replug the charger, then it’ll charge for a little while longer, but I have to keep doing it over and over again to get a full charge.    I also try using Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Car charger to charge the phone and I still get “not charging” message in 10-30 seconds.   Did anyone of you ever experience this?  And how do you solve the problem?   I know I am not the only on ever experience this.  I am sure lots of folks would really appreciate you sharing your solutions.  Nokia USA is not offering any help because the phone is not supported in US.  Nokia UK cannot help either becasue I am in US.  I am disappointed with Nokia support.

Hogwash, absolute hogwash.

My laptop can be fixed anywhere in the world Lenovo (OTCPK: LNVGY) has representation.

My HDTV, imported it from Korea, and Samsung USA had 0 problems honoring my warranty here in the states.

If my Nokia ever dies or breaks on me I don’t know what I would do.

  1. Erm, just a quick comment about this blog . . . it’s turned into one huge long web page!! Could you think about archiving some of it?

  2. hehe i just blogged way too much over the past 7 days. i have typepad set to show the last 7 days so it will naturally thin out. i mean i haven’t been keeping track but when i came back from CES I made more than 50 posts!

EDIT: James I just changed it so typepad now only shows blog entries from 3 days ago. is it any better?

  3. maybe instead of limiting to days you should try to define a number of posts to show on the front page ;)

you’d be hard pressed to find electronics companies to support every device in every geographic area.

not that you are wrong, BUT, it is very difficult.

In a previous job I was head of sysadmin’ing and had to look after our laptop support contract.

We had alot of people working in Asia, US, and Caribbean (we were an Irish based Internet company).

We had to pay for getting support from the manufacturer for laptops *bought* in Ireland, but requiring to be serviced in Asia, US, etc.

I am not sure if other phone manufacturers do worldwide support yet. I would doubt it. Palm I know do not (as I found out when I tried to get my Treo 650 serviced).

I would suspect that Nokia (along with other vendors) will do this in the future.

I would suspect global buying caught up with them too quickly.
