Communications technology firm Nokia (NYSE: NOK) said on Monday it has won an order for a third- generation network from the United States Army.

The deal will allow the Army to evaluate potential applications for 3G wireless technologies for defence purposes, Finnish-based Nokia said in a statement.

Under the contract, Nokia will supply a network of WCDMA/HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) equipment and services at one of the Army’s research and development centres, the company said.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.
