Nokia N93 with WUSB to be demonstrated at 3GSM

It is 22:18 and I am up and atom. I shouldn’t even be glancing at my RSS reader (I should have my head in my genetics textbook) but this is too cool not to mention:

Wisair, one of the chipset makers trying to get its Ultra Wideband
(UWB) and Wireless USB solutions into every consumer product ever, is
demonstrating the use of Wireless USB in camera phones at 3GSM.

Using a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N series handset embedded with the Wisair 542 chip, the
company will show visitors to the WiMedia Alliance area (the rest of us
will just have to take their word for it) just how great it will be
when you can use Wireless USB to transfer pictures and video off your
mobile phone and onto your computer—wirelessly. Assuming the carriers
don’t lock down those features to keep you from using it.

Holy WOW batman! Nokia is still transitioning away from the POP port to USB but this just made life a whole lot more interesting. We’re probably going to see phones with WUSB within a year, 2 years maximum.

Wireless USB is a short-range, high-bandwidth wireless extension to USB that combines the speed and ease-of-use of USB 2.0 with the convenience of wireless technology. Wireless USB is sometimes abbreviated as "WUSB", although the USB Implementers Forum discourages this practice and instead prefers to call the technology "Certified Wireless USB" to differentiate it from competitors (see below, "Competitors"). Wireless USB is based on the WiMedia Alliance’s Ultra-WideBand (UWB) common radio platform, which is capable of sending 480 Mbit/s at distances up to 3 meters and 110 Mbit/s at up to 10 meters. It operates in the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz frequency range and spreads communication over an ultra-wideband of frequencies.

I’m still crossing my fingers however for the next version of Bluetooth based on Ultra Wideband to be shown off at 3GSM.
