24 hours until Nokia’s 3GSM Press Conference: What we know so far
By Stefan Constantinescu on Sunday, February 11th, 2007 at 4:00 AM PST In 3GSM 2007
The Nokia (NYSE: NOK) E90 is going to be the most popular device at the Nokia booth. Engadget was nice enough to get the first pictures sent to them by a secret source. The "press shot" that came a few hours later was nothing but a photoshop job by a member on the Mobile Review forum.
Michael Jerz, the owner and operator of My-Symbian has officially stated that he has signed an NDA, reviewed the E90, and that he will publish his findings the second Nokia unveils it. Keep an eye out on his site.
Steve Litchfield has been a sly fox as well. In his latest post over at All About Symbian he states:
So many things we’ve not been allowed to talk about but which will be announced at 10am GMT on Monday… Watch this space for analysis, photos from the launch events and more… Rafe’s in the thick of things in Barcelona – wish him good health and plenty of bandwidth!
Definitely keep an eye out on his site too.
The guy he mentions, Rafe, is going to be uploading everything he possibly can on his Flickr page. I suggest you add this RSS feed in to your reader. He is an awesome guy and will do his best to answer any questions you have about the new devices. While I’m talking about Rafe I should mention that you should watch his Nokia N95 review on youtube.
Series 60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 is going to be demoed at 3GSM. I sincerely hope Nokia lends the guys over at All About Symbian a prototype device with the new OS so we can get a thorough review. Time will tell on that one. We have conformation that it will be demoed on a Nokia 6290.
More information, including screenshots of S60v3FP2 are at this blog post by Jouni Juntunen, an official Nokia employee handling marketing. Another Nokia employee, Phil Schwarzmann, has interviewed Mikko Röntynen, Head of S60 Platform Marketing at Nokia about the new OS. It is a quick 14 minute (audio) interview, but something I definitely recommend you check out.
The Nokia E61i is going to be released. All we know so far is that it is essentially an E61 but with a 2 MP camera and some slight cosmetic changes. I found some pictures of the dummy phone, posted them here.
The E65 is going to be the first E series slider. We have pictures of the red version, as well as the black/brown version. I prefer the brown/black version myself. That cluster of keys at the bottom of the screen however looks painful.
Not to be out done by the E series alone, Reuters of all people tells us that there will be a Nokia N77 at the show. It is supposed to be a cheap DVB-H device. By cheap I mean coming in at under 300 euros. No pictures of this device have surfaced.
That’s Nokia’s press conference in a nutshell folks. At least this is all the information we have thus far.
The link to the webcast isn’t up yet, but I have information on the right hand side with more information as to when this will be taking place. I’ve added a few extra time zones to help you guys out.
Hopefully in a week or two I should be getting a package in the mail
from Nokia. They want me to check out a (as in single) device they
released at CES. I’ll let you guys wait and guess what that device is.
Little recap: At CES Nokia launched the N76, N93i and N800.
As always I will do my best to cover this event, expect a lot of blog posts over the coming week. If you feel that there is something I should cover feel free to drop me a line!

Nice overview..Let’s hope we get exciting new tomorrow!
im guessing ud like the N800 to review but i hope u get the N93i, my personal favourite, im getting one when its out……..
If you do get to review the N800, please try not to be too hard on it given that the current firmware is flakey and unfinished. That said, this is the state in which it’s being sold by Nokia so it needs a mention, just that the device *WILL* improve with time. With the 770, it took Nokia a couple of firmware releases before they got into their stride after which performance and stability improved immeasurably. The same is going to happen with the N800 (unfortunately) – the current firmware is buggy and incomplete, and I feel sure the next few firmware updates will bring improved stability, performance and also new features (an FM Radio has recently been discovered in the N800, USB on the Go is also rumoured to be in the hardware but not yet enabled). SDHC support will also appear in future firmwares – this is already available in unofficial kernel updates, an N800 with two 8GB SDHC cards is rather sweet!
