NGMN gets new members

By Dusan Belic on Tuesday, February 13th, 2007 at 5:01 PM PST In 3GSM, Announcements, General

Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) initiative got new members. Founded by companies like China Mobile, KPN Mobile NV, NTT DoCoMo, Orange, Sprint (NYSE: S) Nextel, T-Mobile and Vodafone, the group’s goal is to create a virtuous cycle of investment, innovation, and adoption of mobile broadband services with competitive price-performance ratios.

New members include Alltel Corporation, AT&T, SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM), Telecom Italia, and Telefonica SA as new members, Airvana Inc., Huawei, LG Electronics, NEC, Samsung, Starent Networks, and ZTE USA as sponsors, and the University of Surrey as an advisor.

Still, where’s Nokia (NYSE: NOK)? Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)? Motorola (NYSE: MOT)? Anyway, it’s good to know that things are moving. Just, it would be nice to finally have a single standard for mobile communications. :)
