Nokia camera phones simply aren’t suited for flesh tones

Every time I see someone posting comparison pictures it’s usually of a landscape, a car, or some object around the house.
People however … like taking pictures of other people last time I checked.
When your friends and family show you pictures, don’t they have a human in them most of the time?
Why isn’t anyone focusing on what counts, human beings.
Forgive me while I post the MySpace style, dirty mirror, self portrait pictures.
Here is an unedited, zero post processing applied, image of myself taken with the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N93i:
Now let’s see what my Canon Powershot A510 can do:
My 2 year old, 3.2 Megapixel camera, blows the Nokia out of the water.
I’m not a photographer at all either, I just set the thing to "automatic."
Look how much better the tones are, as well as the increased amount of detail.
Do you understand why I say I have a hard time letting go of my dinky little sub $200 point and shoot?
"But Stefan … I can upload straight to Flickr!"
You know what, I’d rather wait until I come home or get back to my hotel room and upload higher quality images.

You shouldn’t ‘let go’ of your Canon, you should use both!
Just for the record, the white balance looks way off on the Canon sample . . . though it is much sharper than the N93i.
I agree with your first comment about subject matter for caparison posts – do cats count? They’re about the only living thing (apart from myself) that I can get to stand still long enough to take two perfectly positioned (and lit) photos of!!!

i like the color from the n93i, but i also like the sharpness from the canon!!
This makes me wonder. I see that the photos produced from your Canon is yellowish in both this and the pic qith your hand. Did you set the whiteball incorrectly, not to automatic? :/ There’s no way a point and shoot will not change the whiteball and creates this yellowish photo in automatic, unless you are in a room with some yellow light (your N93i doesn’t suggest you are in such a room).
It had to be my light fixtures or the light bulbs.
Maybe it is my Canon?
Everything was set to automatic however.
I much prefer having my phone as my only camera for a few reasons. One, like you said, instant uploading to wherever I want. However, I think it’s also important to ask what do you do with the photos? If you’re a printer, then yeah, high quality is key. But if you’re like me and just upload them to share with friends online, or keep them on your computer to flip through randomly, then the quality between say, your Canon and my N73, in opinion, is negligible.
Just a thought.
I think you can find problems in every device. I’m not sure how important these kind of comparisons are. Every situation has it own difficulties and each device have their strong and weak points and will therefore handle them differently.
I’m not into these. I’m satisfied when there is enough details with good focus. We are talking about phones after all. The Canon is as big as N93/N93i and weights at least as much. It should make better work with photography.
