There was a competition for Finnish customers to create their own version of the Eurovision song selected for the host nation via mobile phone. Fans can record the song on their mobile phone and send to a service called ‘Look at me’, a mobile portal where people can record their own film. Other people can participate in viewing videos and rate the videos. The winning entry will win the opportunity to record a video on the Eurovision stage. International fans can expect plenty more activities will be provided nearer the time.

esctoday.com has asked TeliaSonera about the possibility of receiving sim cards so that they can communicate with other fans in Helsinki at local telephone rates and reduce their international phone bills whist attending the event. We have been informed that there are arrangements being made and hope to bring you more news about this in the near future.

Actually, Eurovision is not like american idol. Not at all.
Each European country selects a SONG to represent that country in this competition. And of course a performer to perform that song. But Eurovision is a SONG contest.
At the final each country performs it´s song and then the participants deal points (12 – 0) to other countries. and the country that gets highest score, wins and get´s to organize the contest next year.
    So we won last year:)

Agree. It’s nothing like Idols. We have a local version of Idols going on right now here in Finland. I believe it’s season 3.

But then again, Eurovision is definitely not just a song contest. THE Freak circus show would be much better description. The concept is shamefully bad artists performing horrible corny songs, usually completed with over-the-top performance. If hours of unintentional humor is your thing, Eurovision is a safe bet.

Our representative last year, Lordi, was fun to watch. And since I love rock/metal, I think we should have sent some brutal metal band to Eurovision this year: just to wet the pants of “flower hat ladies”. Instead we’ll introduce Hanna Pakarinen, our dull & dry Idols winner.

We finns still take this lame competition too seriously and don’t take for what it is all about.

Definitely Eurovision is not American idle.
