Video: Future Windows Mobile UI

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I don’t like talking about the competition since that isn’t the point of this blog.

Sometimes however you just notice some cool things that your major competitor is doing.

If anyone has ever used a PSP or Windows Media Center in Vista then you can immediately tell the similarities with this UI. Personally I think it’s lovely. The whole concept of having a wheel you scroll up and down thru, then once you reach a a portion of that wheel you can scroll sideways to get to what you want. Brilliant.

Very creative. Not original, but then again almost everything in our industry is here because we’ve built on the shoulders of giants.

I don’t like calling Windows Mobile, Palm, RIM, and Apple competition. I instead prefer to admire what they’ve accomplished and call them a wonderful resource for ideas. There are quite a few things I see in every mobile OS out there that I wish S60 had. That’s the nature of the beast. You can’t have the perfect thing in life, you always make a compromise.

S60 is the best compromise I can make.
