The Japanese mobile phone market never cease to impress. Latest move from Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) (aka Softbank (OTCPK: SFTBF)) illustrates just how demanding this market is. The company introduced a set of Sharp-manufactured SoftBank 812SH devices in 20 (yes, that’s TWENTY) different shades based on Pantone color chart. That’s 20 color variations to suit almost any personal style.

Unfortunately I haven’t held one in my hand, but the pictures are amazing. Still, I’m sure the “live” experience is even better.

I had blue color 812SH in tokyo. and Yes, these cellphone are really stylish. they have excellent design, performance,battery-tim.. pretty much everything u can expect and imagine.
BUT there is just one problem, these cellphones work only with Softbank and that too in Japan, so if you are planning to use them in your home-country (except Japan), you have to unlock them…. (If you unlock it, warrant is not valid anymore).

  6. tesni says:

so how can you unlock it?

  7. wave says:

you take it to a phone shop and ask them to unlock.
not all phone shops do it as it is a kinda “dodgy” operation so try the Asian places first. It will set you back around $50 USD if you’re lucky, some places charge more.
I tried the 812SH unlock but the phone could not find the network (in Australia), however a new unlocking thingo has been made and the shop is getting it in several weeks so i’ll take it back then.

    Hi wave,

I’ve been trying to have my 812SH unlocked since last week at the shop in China town but so far no luck. They said it’ll be extremely difficult to unlock this phone to 3G network. I would appreciate if you could give me a bit of info about the shop you are dealing with??? Thanks
