Yep, that's twitter: a blog for the A.D.D-challenged. It's simply another uninteresting entry in American faddism; it should probably be listed between the pet rock and the hool hoop (at least the hoola hoop was fun though.)

Hi Stefan,
I'm in the middle from people who get it and people who don't.
I have to say Twitter (and Jaiku) are a funny way to spend your time, enlarge your ego, communicate with someone that you maybe already know... But I think there is no value offered to users.
Have you noticed all the news channels publishing their articles in Twitter? (I do the same with my blog, btw). They are not answering the question "What are you doing": they are just spamming.
Furthermore, in my opinion we cannot talk about Presence, if there isn't any automatic detection of user's status. From this point of view, I suggest to give a look at Hictu (<a href="http://www.hictu.com)," rel="nofollow">http://www.hictu.com),</a> which is a free tool to communicate privately and embeds a lot of real presence info.

I think part of it has to do with how easy it is - short form blogging. Don't have to think so much. Also - several ways to do it. Through IM, the web site, a widget like Twitteriffic, text message, etc. And if you have a few friends on Twitter, it's kind of like keeping in touch with their lives /being more in tune to things... even if you're too buy getting your own stuff done. At first I didn't update it much and saw it as just another piece of code to put on my blog, but it's kind of neat. in a small way.

I'm so addicted to twitter and I think it's because it's a highly accessible status message/ chat room / news source. I lIKe how it's also both public and private if you want.

A video might not be very fun to watch, but perhaps some audio....

we'll talk in nyc

Quite honestly, Stefan, I don't get it, either. I have one, I have it on my site, and I update it frequently. And yet I don't know why. I think it's kinda like MySpace, though without the smut and poorly targeted ads.

There's no real reason to start doing it, except for that others are, or just to see what it's like. Once you give it a go, however, then you really just can't stop, and it becomes disgustingly addicting.

I don't get it either. It looks like a funny gadget so far but I don't see how this can become anything relevant.

I would rather put my eggs in Jaiku's basket (www.jaiku.com), at least their mobile solution is better and they are one of the first to experiment richer shared presence with live users...
