Texas to be among the first to try out Sprint Nextel’s WiMAX network

The initial build-out of Sprint (NYSE: S) Nextel’s mobile WiMAX network has started. The first market to serve is good ol’ Texas. Citizens of Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin should be able enjoy all the beauty of high-speed WiMAX access somewhere in the first half of 2008. After that, Sprint Nextel will continue to build on its new network, to cover about 100 million people across the States by the end of 2008.

Now the sweet point. In the same announcement, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) promised to deliver WiMAX-enabled handsets and Internet tablets to the Sprint Nextel’s users. Just when I started wondering what’s happening with their plan to better penetrate the U.S. market…
