Frengo comes to us as the brainchild of co-founders’ Mahi de Silva and Dan Mosher. The idea behind their, um…idea, is that social networking shouldn’t keep you bound to your computer. Their goal was to develop a mobile social network that could always keep friends and family connected. And what better way to do that than to utilize the one communication gadget that everyone and their grandmother (literally) has – the cellphone.
Using $2.3 million in venture capital, provided by private investment firms Index Ventures and Khosla Ventures, Frengo built a cross-platform and cross-device communication tool for keeping your social network in the pocket of your choosing. Already use MySpace, hi5, Piczo, or any other social networking website? Not a problem. With widgets that easily integrate into your MySpace page, you dont have to worry about rebuilding your “popularity”. Worried about how it will work on your phone? Ease your mind – Frengo and “mobile operators such as Boost Mobile” are already in cahoots to make sure it all works nice and smooth.
Armed with an intuitive system based on simple commands and optimized to be used on a mobile device, Frengo offers sports, music, pop culture, planning tools, and even user-created games to its users. However, a critical mass, or tipping point, needs to be reached before this service can really be useful. So get Frengo-ing.
