The Nokia N81 exists

Ed posted a review of the new Nokia Sports Tracker application. Check out the list of compatible devices:
The application is compatible with latest Nokia (NYSE: NOK) S60 3rd edition phones, such as N71, N73, N75, N76, N80, N81, N91, N92, N93, N93i, N95, E50, E60, E61, E62, E65, E70, E90, 3250, 5500 Sport, 6290, 6110 Navigator.
Let the mystery, speculation and suspense begin.

It does exist…Here is the proof :
Nokia N81
The first device is the new Nokia N81 a candybar/monoblock music device with 10 GB harddisk, 3.5 mm mini-jack connector, EDGE, UMTS, WLAN, 3.2 Mpixel camera, Bluetooth stereo audio support (A2DP) and 3D speakers.
The device will be the successor of the N91, but the name suggests otherwise. More information is not yet available but Nokia does show with this new device that music and imaging can be combined to a well-balanced product.
I dont know about it being ‘proof’ as such. That info is the same as this url:

It was the announcement for the upcoming devices at Open Studio 2006 last year in September. And according to that there were supposed to be 3 devices – N75, N81 and N95.
Was the N81 shown in September?
Err.. Nikhil, how does you saying that stuff provide the evidence that the device exists and has those specs?
Anyway, there would be nothing extra-ordinary about a 8x series device having those specs and in N81 being the follow up to N91. 9x series is basically the high end series that is also appears to be used to introduce completely new features to the N-series. Since 8GB HD is already introduced in N91, Nokia could well decide to put it into the mid-range 8x series at this point.
@ Nikhil – I know that a device with those specs has been floating around nokia, I believe it also has somewhat of a scroll wheel, from what I heard. I’ve only heard it mentioned once, though.
Interesting, if the scroll wheel goes through.. haven’t seen one since, if I am not mistaken.. what was it called again, the first ever Nokia 3G phone? 5xxx something.
I have seen it today in a Nokia meeting… It was company confidential so I have not pics, but to my taste it is too big.. There was other interesting ones as:
- 6267,
- the three versions of the 6110 (yes, three different versions, and I am not talking about colors, one of them including TV-OUT, the known navigator and a very interesting slider one…),
- the new fashion ones, the 7700 and 7500 (both looked like a Vertu)
- an affordable version of the sirocco, the 8600 luna
- 5700.. and many more (up to 20 new upcoming phones…)
Lol, it was just a typo!!! It was supposed to be the N80IE, not N81… and as far as the N81 being mentioned at Open Studio… thats rubbish. I have all of my pdf’s on the released and announced devices and the N81 clearly was not one of them.
Always Selling Nokia, wow, that’s an impressive list.. can you share a bit more detail on those?
- 6267
***what is this? just a CDMA version of some old Nokia model?
- the three versions of the 6110 (yes, three different versions, and I am not talking about colors, one of them including TV-OUT, the known navigator and a very interesting slider one…)
***I would imagine these would have to be new models, not just versions of 6110 per se?
- the new fashion ones, the 7700 and 7500 (both looked like a Vertu)
*** that sounds promising; Vertu’s have nice design
- an affordable version of the sirocco, the 8600 luna
*** sounds good too, any comment on the looks?
- 5700.. and many more (up to 20 new upcoming phones…)
*** so is 5700 a rugged phone or the follow up to 3250 or something else?
Oh and when you say “it is too big” – is it as large as N91?
It would seem the page has been fixed. It says N80IE and not N81 now.
I noticed the N81 in the list of compatible phones for the Sports Tracker app as well. I searched around the Nokia site and found nothing, so I’m guessing it hasn’t been announced yet.
n81 is as large as n91,
6267 is a new version of the 6131 including 3g, 2mpix camera, 8x zoom, bluetooth stereo and dedicated music keys in the external keypad.
6110. I knew only the navigator, but there are two more versions.. one is monoblock and it is named CLASSIC, and the other one is named SLIDE, as is own name says it is slider and to my taste the best of the three.
New fashion ones are monoblock format, both are black and they have “organic screens” …(!)
8600 will be the entry level in the premium category. It is very similar to the sirocco, in black, but cheaper..
5700 it is the update of the 3250..
After these they took us to a showroom where there was many more upcoming phones, but some of them were dummies and others had no numeric names so I could not identify them, but I was very impressed about them, we have a promising 2007…
Interesting.. I am still a little confused by the 6110 comment.. the 6110 is a slider. To me it sounds like you are talking about completely new models with GPS built in, not versions of 6110.
By “organic screens” I assume you mean the screensavers (i.e. not the hardware)?
The 8600 is the same form factor then, i.e slide-up?
Would be very disappointing and surprasing if N81 indeed is as big and heavy as N91..
Vippo, I will try to explain it….
imagine three different phones (different in design and capabilities).. .that is the 6110… It seems that Nokia now plans to start a new way to name the phones, with a name (i.e. 6110) and a surname (classic, slide and navigator)… and them three are completely different…
I think it is an error, because it will be confusing for the end consumer.. In my case, I am a distributor, and I am sure that this way of consider names will bring many errors…
just imagine this conversation on the phone with a customer:
- Hi!… I want you to send me a 6110
- Yes, but which one?
- The slider
- Which one?, because there are two sliders, the slider and the navigator…
- emmmm. Just let me check out and I will give you a call again..
It sounds interesting but this can be the day after day situation…
Otherwise, they did not explained us in detail what it means “organic screens”, just a point regarding that screens are not back lighted…
OLED = organic screens that don’t need a backlight.
I forgot… the 8600 is slide-up as you say…
Regards!
With due regards my friends…anything i mentioned in my first post was just based on my research about this phone,so just to inform you people where i saw the pic and got the info from i am posting the links of the pic and the details of so called Nokia N81
http://www.tecnozoom.it/cellulari/nokia-n81.html -About the phone
http://www.tecnozoom.it/cellulari/foto-nokia-n81.html -Photo of the phone
Thanks.. but it looks a lot like the N95, doesn’t it?
does the cameras on the 6267 and the 5700 have auto focus, and as the 5700 is the successor of the 3250 is it 2mpxl or 3
I can confirm that the n81 does exist, although the picture you have linked above is definitely not it. I think the specs are inaccurate too, the device won’t be using a microdrive as with n91.
The above posted photo is genuine, although prototypes I have seen have had the silver detailing around the side in a different colour (goldish I think). n81 is not a midrange phone, it is nokias new flagship s60 model. It will also have 8gb flash memory.
