Amnesty Wireless: Make phone calls and donate at the same time

Amnesty Wireless is a new cell phone services launched by Amnesty International USA. Their service is unique in a sense that by signing with them you agree to donate a 10% of the service’s charges to the Amnesty International. Basically you use your phone regularly, and donate money at the same time.
The service doesn’t cost subscribers anything extra. For $29.99 per month you get 200 minutes to talk, plus unlimited nights and weekends. Furthermore you will get a free 30 minutes of “support calls,” with political leaders that Amnesty is targeting. Finally, if you persuade your friends to join, you can call them for free.
The bad thing is that with the service you get a low-end LG 225. But, there’s a free activation and shipping, and Amnesty Wireless will even buy out your current contract with credit up to $175.
It’s certainly interesting to see the Amnesty International implementing the mobile technology in their everyday operations, and I guess we can see other organization following their trail. (via: Gizmodo)
