N93i bug: It turns itself off

My days with the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N93i are ending, it’s going to be sent back on Monday. One thing that I’ve been experiencing is shutdowns when closing the device.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Nokia N93i, it is a clamshell form factor device. I’m a pretty strong guy, not like Finland’s Jouko Ahola, but pretty powerful none the less. When closing the N93i too forcefully it powers off. I think the battery is dislodging itself temporarily. The weird thing is I can’t reproduce the bug.

This has been happening to me at least every other day since owning the device. I’ve reseated the battery, but that doesn’t help much.

Any of the other N93i testers have similar experiences?

Update: Less than 2 hours after this post I just experienced another shutdown.

Unfortunatly my e61 does this occasionally too… although it’s only happened about 3 times since I’ve owned it, it’s on my mind because it did it yesterday when trying to switch themes.

  2. My E61 is built like a tank. It is one of the most reliable phones I’ve ever had.

I have made it crash several times however. No one is perfect.

  3. Yep, I had the very same problem. Nothing worse than a phone that just cuts out like that.

  4. Korokmu says:

  5. James: Huge thanks for confirming the bug. I thought I might have had a broken device, but apparently you’re experiencing the same symptom.

Same thing happened to my N93i.

Shut itself off sometimes. Most of the time, is when I close the flip.

Has anyone taked to nokia about this?

  13. raw says:

damn! same problem here, random shutdowns, mostly after closing the phone. i would be glad if this turns a out a firmware problem cause software is easy to fix. it would be much worse if nokia did something wrong at design stage :(

  14. vixay says:

I’ve the same problem. Phone randomly turns off. It stopped doing that for a while when an application called Apps1 or something had crashed. Or maybe your guess is right about the contacts gettting loose. Will duct-taping solve the problem?

  15. vixay says:

It’s definitely not the batteries though since it turns itself off even when not moved/closed …etc.

  16. romy says:

well da problom is dat da phone switches off by itslef due to load….
da ram ov da phone gets full and due to a burden it turns offf..
da solution is dis dat try to install less applications and use little memory card…..
i hope it will work out!!!!!!!!!1
