Will there be a Nokia N95 with 1900 MHz 3G?

Jonathan Greene found this little tidbit:

Guidewire Connection has just learned via a trusted source within Nokia (NYSE: NOK) that the new N95 Smartphone, which is just now beginning to be released across the pond in Europe, is also being produced with a 1900-MHz model – the band that HSDPA runs on here in the USA.

Long used to being the red-headed stepchild here in the U.S. when it comes to high-end mobile devices, one has to wonder if the decision to finally release a truly ground-breaking phone – the N95 represents Nokia’s current state-of-the-art – was at least in part motivated by the launch of Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s iPhone.

According to the source, Nokia and Cingular have yet to officially come to an agreement on this device; however, it is reasonable to assume that such an agreement must be at least under negotiation.

After the bullshit Cingular pulled with the N75 I severely doubt that Nokia is willing to go through that again with the N95.

  1. Ricky Cadden says:

    1. If Nokia is dumb enough to pitch Cingular a device with ONLY UMTS 1900 (and not 850) then it WILL get canned. Thats why the 6282 and N80 (US Variant) never made it. Regardless of the fact that Cingular has yet to start using UMTS 850 (AFAIK), they require it in their devices, for future build-outs.

    2. When I did my hands-on back in Jan/Feb with the N75, my contact told me that they had seen a Cingular document showing the N95 on the roadmap for Q4. I didn’t believe it at the time, either.
