LG Electronics and Google (NSDQ: GOOG) have announced a deal under which the Korean handset maker will bundle Google’s popular mobile applications, including Google Maps, GMail and Blogger, to its handset.
Apparently, LG plans to release at least 10 new mobile phones with pre-installed Google apps in North America, Europe and Asia this year, with first shipments starting in Q2 2007.
However, if a cell phone is bought with the contract, a carrier is the one that picks which software comes pre-installed on the device. My guess is that this deal will only affect only the LG phones bought unlocked (without a contract).
