Sugar-Powered Cell Phone On The Horizon?

Thanks to some sweet research from Saint Louis University, batteries powering small portable devices may use sugar as their power source – redefining the way we “juice up.” Apparently, “ these sweet batteries run almost three to four times longer on a single charge than their everyday lithium ion counterparts.”

Professor of chemistry Shelley Minteer’s research found that, compared to tree sap, flat soda, sweetened drink mix, plain sugar water seemed to work best. She thinks we could see sugar-powered batteries within 5 years.
