IXI Mobile’s Ogo 2.0 – Here We ‘Ogo’ Again

The Ogo2.0 is the successor to the not-so-successful Ogo personal communicator from IXI Mobile. The idea behind the device was to keep users connected via Instant Messaging and Email. Conspicuously absent from the original Ogo’s feature set, the lack of voice capability, web-surfing, and camera essentially doomed the Ogo to falter in the shadow of the Sidekick. Now, IXI Mobile wants another (O)go at the personal communicator market with the Ogo2.0.
This time around, IXI Mobile is pushing a re-vamped version of the Ogo – the Ogo2.0. The new device features full qwerty keyboard, stereo speakers, microSD expansion slot, WiFi, GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900Mhz radios, and a high-res QVGA display for surfing all those bright and shiny Web 2.0 sites.
With attachable OgoClips, the Ogo2.0 can take on camera, mp3 player, and even phone capabilities. It does seem strange that an add-on is needed to enable voice communication on a device that already has built-in quad-band radios. Still, its much improved over its lackluster predecessor.
Expect a European launch on Swisscom Mobile (the first European carrier of the original Ogo), and a US launch on Independence, Ohio-based Revol Wireless.
