Tesco is set to rule the mobile market in the UK, with a third of all new pre-pay users jumping to the retail giant’s mobile offering.
Launched in a partnership with O2 (NYSE: TEF), Tesco Mobile added 420,000 new customers and reached a total of 1.4 million users last year, a far more than Vodafone (NYSE: VOD), T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) and Orange.
According to Andy Dewhurst, Tesco Mobile’s CEO, people are confused with what exactly they pay for a phone call, and that’s the opportunity for Tesco’s simple flat rate pricing.
It will be interesting to see Tesco adding contract plans at some point in the future. How will the carriers in the country react?
