How come the $750 Nokia N95 won’t edit documents out of the box?

To my knowledge, and please correct me if I’m wrong, the N95 only comes with an Office Documents viewer.
Not editor. Viewer.
Just because it’s an N series and not an E series why do we have to assume that people don’t want to make quick modifications to a doc file?
Windows Mobile 2006 Standard and Professional have this capability built in.
Since Open C is now apart of S60, why not start porting Open Office?

It could be that Nokia (foolishly?) thinks that E Series is in competition with Windows Mobile users (which Nokia apparently assumes are mostly business users), where as N Series is not. In their thinking N Series is for the consumer market, for people who are all about multimedia, entertainment and having fun with gadgets (and therefore not into working on docs on their phones… I mean multimediacomputers).
Just speculating, but that’s how the thinking process might have gone.
@Viipottaja – you’re absolutely right. Nokia has obviously made some artificial separation between the N-series and E-series to uphold those differences. Same thing with Team Suite and Access Point Groups.
I don’t think you want to be porting OpenOffice. As per the FAQ – http://www.openoffice.org/FAQs/build_faq.html#build – the code base consists of about 30,000 (mostly) C++ source code files weighing at about 9 MILLION lines of code. OO.org is a competent office suite but still runs like a pig on most recent PC hardware.
My E65 came with viewers only. I was a bit miffed.
Ouh it’s calles Windows Mobile 5 oder Windows Mobile 6 – there’s no Windows Mobile 2005/2006… It’s like S60 and Series 60
Hi,
doing a port of OpenOffice would not make sense at all comparing the size and effort to do it. Even if it would be possible, it would not make sense at all, as the GUI etc. has to be adapted to the specific situation.
It is also already possible to open OpenOffic files on Symbian smartphone, if you are interested, have a look here:
