Garmin and Tomtom to make phones?

Garmin and Tomtom to make phonesIt looks like everyone wants to make cell phone these days. According to some sources Garmin and Tomtom are looking into entering the GPS enabled phone market. Apparently, Garmin has already held talks for cooperation with Taiwan-based ODM handset maker Compal Communications.

Official word is lacking from both Garmin and TomTom, but somehow it makes sense that in the long run no one would want to buy a separate GPS-enabled device. Furthermore, both companies have their software running on popular smartphone platforms, so it’s just a matter of finding the right company to make the future devices.
