Iran-made cell phones coming this June

We already know that Iran is making nuclear power-plants, but cell phones? At least, I wasn’t aware of that.
Anyhow, according to the senior Iranian telecoms industry official, the first 300,000 phones made in Iran will hit the market in June. The upcoming devices will be sold under the ITMC brand, and will be made in cooperation with South Korean companies (not sure which one).
The country seems ready to give new phones a try, especially after the government decision to raise import taxes on cellphones from 4 to 60 percent in an effort to push domestic production.
Don’t expect the high end smartphones, but still… it’s good to see industry diversifying. (via: textually.org)
