T-mobile Announces Sidekick iD For April Launch
By Will Park on Saturday, April 14th, 2007 at 5:23 PM PST In Announcements, Devices, T-Mobile
T-mobile (NYSE: DT) has finally gone official with their low-end version of the Sidekick 3. We’ve been expecting the release of the Sidekick iD, and with a $100 price tag (after rebate of course) we imagine that a lot of 25-and-under types have been as well. The announcement puts the launch of the Sidekick iD at April 25, and will have an almost identical form factor as the Sidekick 3 – with some exceptions.
As the lower cost alternative to the SK3, the SK iD gives up its camera and EDGE data connectivity (as we said, it’s an entry-level version of the SK3), which pretty much kills the deal for us. But, the swappable “fun”-colored body panels might be just the ticket for those under 25 years of age. As Greg Andrews, T-mobile USA marketing director, puts it, “With the T-Mobile Sidekick iD, we’re expanding on the theme of individuality by increasing the personalization aspect and providing pricing that is accessible to a wide range of consumers.” Hopefully there are enough consumers in that “wide range” willing to do without a camera or EDGE.
Again, April 25 is the expected launch, so keep an eye out! (But don’t forget to do your taxes before then!)

You can always goto a third-party T-mobile dealer and negotiate a lower price if you activate on a new contract
