Nokia has at least one passionate person on their staff

By Stefan Constantinescu on Sunday, April 15th, 2007 at 1:17 AM PST In Random

Its wicked to see an entire blog post dedicated to passion. I have one quote to add Joe:

"It’s a great thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself." – American Beauty

I love running this blog because I inherently love seeking new information. Not because its nice to know more things, but because it’s completing that puzzle in my head of the world as I know it.

I didn’t wake up one day and decide I love Nokia (NYSE: NOK).

I’m 20 years old and I come to the same realization every single day I wake up: I don’t know anything. Sitting in front of Wikipedia for hours at a time is fun, but nothing beats having a conversation with someone on a topic I know very little or nothing about. Years of compounding information and new experiences made me what I am.

I love mobile phones because they enable me to have a world of information in my pocket. At the end of the day I don’t care about the camera, the GPS or the QWERTY keyboard. It’s the connection that counts.

Information by itself is meaningless. My passion is finding out how to use it to create something new. As you celebrate your coworkers retirement, I celebrate a new day. After being involved in a car accident that almost killed me, I’ve grown to love life more than anything I’ve ever loved before.

I’m slowly beginning to realize that what I want isn’t something I can easily find.

And unlike the N95, I don’t have GPS to help me find it.

Stefan, what a great post! It does raise one question in my mind though.. if you were almost killed in a car accident, why do you have a radar detection device in your car? Not trying to be flippant or an a-hole, but that just seems slightly contradictory. Anyway, all the best, and keep the passion and thirst for knowledge and not just information! :)

  2. It’s hard to explain in words how much I love driving. It’s one of those things that I’ll keep doing regardless of that slight risk of death.

The accident wasn’t my fault. I had a tire blow out which in turn caused me to nearly swerve into a concrete divider at 105 mph (169 km/h), but I missed it by a few inches and ended up spinning a few times in a grassy field.

    That adrenaline rush was glorious.

Let’s just say I check my tire pressure and tread depth a little more often now ;-)

  3. Powerful words.

Just be careful with this one:

    > I love Nokia

As they say, “Never love a company — it can’t love you back”

Otherwise, I think it’s a wonderful thing to do what you love (driving, connecting people, whatever).

  4. Hmmm I guess that makes perfect sense. I would have to get a list of all the people behind all the products I loved. That would be rather difficult.

What do you love doing Tommi?
