Nokia expands recycling program in commemoration of Earth Day
It looks like Nokia (NYSE: NOK), one of the planet’s largest mobile phone manufacturers, is going to expand their cell phone and cell phone accessory recycling program. In celebration of Earth Day, the Finnish cell phone manufacturer will ramp up their existing recycling infrastructure with an aggressive campaign to get everyone to recycle. Green-minded cell phone users can pick up a recycling kit – a prepaid envelope – that can be used to mail their cell phone to Nokia for proper recycling at Nokia’s flagship stores in Chicago and New York, or at one of the 13 Nokia Experience Centers nationwide.

Craig Coffey, VP Marketing at Nokia USA, said, “A commitment to the environment is part of Nokia’s driving principle,” adding that, “Nokia takes a lifecycle approach in everything it does. From the extraction of raw materials to recycling, waste management and reintroduction of recovered materials into the economic system, Nokia strives to ensure minimal environmental impact from start to finish.

Homebodies can print prepaid postage labels, from Nokia’s website, to mail any cell phone in their own envelope. Nokia stores will even give you baby tree, along with a recycling kit, this Earth Day weekend (April 20 – 22). With pre-paid postage, you really have no excuse for not recycling your old cell phone.

You can also visit Wireless Recycling for a list of over 40,000 cell phone recycling drop-off centers.
