Sprint’s Motorola Q Not Likely To Get Windows Mobile 6.0 Update

User shaun0207 over at the EverythingQ forums got a customer service email regarding the possbility of upgrading the Sprint (NYSE: S) Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Q’s Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system to the newer Windows Mobile 6.0. The email, from “Angus D.,” shoots down hopeful Sprint customers, saying “This phone works on Windows Mobile OS 5.0 with AKU 2.4 and is not upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6,” adding that “this phone does not support Sprint Picture Mail and Sprint Video Mail. Thank you for contacting us. Have a great day.” It’s a sad day for Sprint customers using a Moto Q. Not only will they be left out of Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrades, but they will never get Sprint’s Picture Mail or Video Mail – a feature available on all other Sprint phones.
Don’t you just love when customer support succintly tells you to “go fly a kite” and then “have a great day”? Sprint users, wait until your contract is up, and then take your business to T-mobile (NYSE: DT). We hear they got some good service over there.

The problem is that Moto Q is a great phone and the camera isn’t crap compared to a lot of phones out there that even claim to be higher than 1.3.
While it’s sad you can’t use picture mail, there are ways around that especially if you know how to handle Windows and stuff.
Also– no other carrier has the excellent pricing for plans that Sprint does.
T-Mobile charges ridiculous amounts of money for text messaging that isn’t even unlimited.
Don’t even get me started on Verizon, much less Cingular/AT&T.
Eve, there are ways around the disabilty to use picture mail? would you mind sharing these methods?
