S60_summit

I was poking thru the (password protected) 2007 S60 summit site and came across this PDF file: Download S60_Summit_Expo.pdf

I just hit gold. This 7 page document gives a summary of what I’m going to be seeing on Wednesday. Here are some highlights:

  • Helix Multimedia Engine: Helix makes Windows Media video possible on S60
  • Java Mobile Service Architecture: JSR-248
  • Message Composing New Look & Feel
    • Common composer for S60
    • Facelifts of the messaging clients (Please please please let this mean threaded SMS!)
  • Nokia Download! is the PC version of the Download! client found in S60 devices
  • S60 Mobile Office Suite (Nokia coming out with their own office suite?!)
  • There will also be a few companies demoing their contribution to the S60 ecosystem:
    • Adobe will be showing off Flash Lite
    • Freescale will have a video telephony S60 reference design
    • LG will bring the KS10 JoY
    • Samsung is bringing these models: SGH-D720, SGH-D730, SGH-Z600, SGH-i520, SGH-i400
    • TI is promising to show a "5 second full OS boot time" on one of their processors
    • Samsung will also be showing off their S3C6400 processor which can do everything except laundry. It looks like a serious competitor to TI’s OMAP 3420, however the power consumption may not be up to par since it’s a 90 nm solution versus TI’s 65.
    • STMicroelectronics will have their Nomadik STn8815 processor. This is a gut feeling, but I think this is the chip inside the Nokia 8600.
  • A few demos from various universities around the world and Nokia NRC will also be at the summit!

Looks like I’m going to be taking quite a number of pictures and writing until I get carpal.

I’m officially pumped. I don’t think I’ll be sleeping tonight and hopefully that should make sleeping on the 10 hour flight across the Atlantic easier.

That’s interesting. I have noticed a lot of Flash Lite activity around the web recently. It’s good to see Adobe getting serious about mobile options for Flash these days as well as Flash for Linux.
