Global Mobile Phone Growth Slows As Market Dries Up

According to a recently released research report, from IDC, the global market for handsets seems to be growing at a slower pace. Sure, we saw shipments of mobile phone grow 10%, compared to the same time last year – that’s still a good amount of growth – but, the explosive 20%+ growth from every quarter in 2006 seems to be waning. Vendors shipped 254.6 million mobile phones in Q1 of 2007, which is 10% more than Q1 2006, but down 13.8% from the previous quarter. It looks like the market-base for mobile phone virgins is slowly drying up, with less and less potential new customers every quarter.
