It’s not just Nokia (NYSE: NOK) that wants to go green. Motorola (NYSE: MOT) is also jumping on board.

MotorolaRecently, MOTO patented a solar cell combined with an LCD display. These solar cells are actually a thin film — so called transparent conductive oxides — that reside on top of the LCD screen. The compelling idea is to use the existing screen surface for battery charging — no need for extra space for solar panels. MOTO’s patent claims that black LCDs with a 75% let-through rate is the optimal setting to work with the technology.

Sounds like a real deal if you ask me. Especially for the sunny regions, where the phones equipped with this technology should work round the clock non-stop… (via: Uberphones)
