The team at “The Real Hustle” brings us another tip on how not to get scammed on your cell phone. Last, we covered the Text Message Trap, this time we cover the 24-Hour Phone Shop Scam. As the title implies, the team setup a fly-by-night cell phone store and convinced potential buyers to pony up a deposit for a new cell phone. When the unsuspecting customer returns to the shop, on promise of a new phone, they find the shop closed and gone.
Make sure you aren’t the next poor sap to get suckered into a cell phone scam.
- Only give deposits to reputable corporate stores
- Avoid giving deposits to 3rd party dealers – no phone, no cash
- Always get a receipt
